mission statement
Our club Girls Build from University High School Charter, are a group of 20 determined girls attempting to bring awareness to our community on issues that impact today’s society. We want our community to acknowledge that taking action and participating in the upcoming election can make a difference. We have seen the rise of student voice through voting and policy advocacy. This impact area addresses social inequality and injustice. The midterm elections are approaching with opportunities to address voter registration, voter awareness, voter turnout and voting laws. This project is needed in our community because as the boomer electorate decreases in size, experts suggest it is merely a matter of time before millennials become the largest and most powerful group driving future elections in the U.S. Unfortunately, due to lack of knowledge or lack of motivation, not all who can vote will, meaning that fewer young people get to directly influence issues that might affect their lives for years to come, including college tuition reform and federal job programs. In order to accomplish our goal, we would like to host different community service and engagement events to improve our own community. Using social media, our website, and our school resources, we will be able to promote these events and resources to others.
